I know there is a boating safety course coming up at Brody Middle school. We are having a sqaudron meeting tomorrow; I'll try to get the details (cost, times etc)from our officers and let you know.

The Des Moines Sail and Power Squadron is offering their boat smart class in late October/early November on Thursday evenings.

There are four sessions, Oct 20,27,Nov 3,10 at Brody Middle School which is on Park Avenue a few blocks west of Fleur Drive. Times are 6:30 PM to 9:00. A test will be given on the fourth evening...don't worry most of the test questions will be from the questions in the textbook.

Cost is $30 which includes the textbook. Add $5 for each additional family member if you share the textbook.

You can just show up on the first day of class and register. You can also register by calling Des Moines Adult Education which gives you the option of paying by credit card (here you would just pay the $30 fee per textbook needed...you would still pay the $5 per additional person at the school)

Many insurance companies give a pretty good discount for taking a safety course. And even if you are an "expert" boater, it doesn't hurt to brush up on the basics periodically. Another advantage to this class is that you have the opportunity to share opinions and discuss "real world" situations with our squadron members who are experienced boaters themselves.

As long as we have each other. We'll never run out of problems.
